Teaching Practice - Practice makes perfect -

walk into your class as a student teacher can be a stressful situation. You are responsible for a whole class of students and there are expectations placed on you. The expectations of colleagues, the principle, students, parents, and the expectations you have for yourself. It can be incredibly daunting and overwhelming. However, being prepared can minimize the impact of the stress associated with being a new teacher. Follow the ten tips we have provided below.

  1. Write a friendly note introducing yourself to your colleagues, students and parents. Make sure this note is distributed to all. Tell them why you chose to be a teacher, your interests and hobbies, what you expect to get from your teaching practice and that you are looking forward to sharing this time with them.
  2. To know teachers / lecturers will be working with in the classroom. What is their background, preferred teaching methods etc. The more you understand about them, the more they will be interested in knowing you. Be sure to find out how many students are in class, the gender mix, the differences and cultural needs, and learning styles and challenges of children. Familiarize yourself with the class routines and schedules.
  3. Talk to your teacher supervision about their expectations and take note of these.
  4. Do not be afraid to ask questions. The teacher supervision need to know what are your expectations.
  5. Plan your teaching in blocks of time. Allow time for observation, and slowly increase this time every week. Note the lessons you are responsible for every day. You will need time to prepare for lessons, and personally evaluate your performance so schedule time for these in your day. Your teacher supervision plays an important role in your teaching practice in order to set aside time each day to ask for their feedback and suggestions.
  6. Know the areas of the curriculum to be taught for the period of practical training and write detailed lesson plans that are easy to follow.
  7. Your lessons will not always go as planned. Be flexible, and have a backup plan. The backup can be reading a story, a game, or take a nature walk in the playground. It is not the end of the world if the lesson does not go as expected. Please write your assessment and what you learned from this experience.
  8. E 'through the observation of other teachers who will build their own teaching style. Keep a private diary that you write every day. Observe your teacher supervision / s and note the positive and negative aspects of their teaching.

Like anything we undertake in life, teaching practice is what you make of it. Increase your pleasure to be nice to others, slotting in the routines of supervision of the teacher / s, to be flexible and cheerful, to be well prepared, and experiment and learn as much as possible.
